This page describes the different processes I use in creating my sites. Select the Website Portfolio from the menu above to see samples of websites.
Many steps are required in developing a website that both attracts clients and brings them back. It takes good design and good planning. Straightforward code and the use of CSS helps reduce the possibility of errors and retains continuity throughout. Fresh content keeps the viewer coming back. Good management of the web project ensures all these aspects come together in good order.

Following are the different steps to any good web development project:

Before designing your site

The first step in creating a website is defining the parameters, the requirements and the scope of the site. The early requirements gathering are essential in a satisfactory delivery. These exercises can make sure everyone knows exactly what is being delivered and can find things that you haven't thought of yet! The planning stage includes defining when the website is required, what type of development is required and exactly what needs to be presented on the site. What is the vision? What is the ultimate goal of the site?
The web project ends when the site is completed, to the agreement of all parties. It can be delivered on the web or as a standalone on disc for the user to upload themselves.

Creating the website

Websites must be designed to reflect the subject represented. In some instances, metaphors tie the website together, in others, colour and graphics. The Artbo sites are a selection of artist portfolio sites. They reflect the artwork of each artist represented. The colours and designs are chosen to accentuate the artist's works of art.

CSS, Javascript, html, dhtml, Xml, flash: a website can be as simple as a coded page or as elaborate as a animated sequence with all the bells and whistles. However, the vision and the ultimate goal should direct the development of the site. In this day of increasing competition on the web, the sooner one can get their website online the better without sacrificing quality.

After launch

Up to date content will keep people returning. One of the most common complaints from artists is 'I have no time to worry about a website'. Webmastering services are an essential part in supporting the artist. Continuous updating of shows and artwork is essential to keep patrons returning.. Don't have time to write up something each month? Just put the content manager on your mailing list for new shows and half the work is already done! Forward pictures friends have taken of you at shows, or new works of art your excited about. A content manager can make updating your website a breeze.

For those who are in a quandry as to what to present on a website, a questionnaire prepared by Artbo can help define the needs, goal and vision of the artist in relation to their website.
